The Gosnells Mead Bar set to open

Londoners feeling the need, the need for mead are in luck as a new bar devoted to the drink is opening in Bermondsey this weekend.

Gosnells of London is on a mission to bring mead into the 21st century. The signature style is the 4% ABV Wildflower Mead, drawn from the nectar of no fewer than 45 species of flowers, bushes and trees for a taste of an English meadow.

But, though we might associate the honeyed liquor with Friar Tuck, Gosnells is also offering flavours that would make even the most worldly of medieval monks blush. Among the meads on offer in the new bar are Raspberry Wildflower, Sweet Cherry and a cloudy Mojito Mead. Canned meads, including Sour, Pink Hibiscus and Hopped, will also be available.

Founder Tom Gosnell pointed out the beverage’s versatility: “So many people are popping by to see what it’s all about, and we are excited to be able to offer them such a wide range of flavours from 0% to 12% ABV. The bar will provide a thought-provoking showcase and hopefully encourage guests to sample one of head brewer Will Grubelnik’s iterations of the world’s oldest alcoholic drink, mead. Our meads are based on just honey and water fermented to show the brilliance of the honeybee and its flowers.”

The new bar, at 72 Enid Street, is tucked beneath a railway arch and can host 100 guests, it will also be opening just in time for the London Marathon on Sunday 2 October. “The race passes through Bermondsey, so what better way for guests to reinvigorate all the senses than by visiting the Bermondsey Mead Mile, surrounded by a cornucopia of amazing brewers,” Gosnell concluded.
